Documents and Records

There are a number of documents which have been written over the years which record various histories and genealogies of different stages relating to the Washbourn family.  These are listed below, approximately in timeline order, with short explanatory notes.  Note that not all of these are in print.

The Washbourne Family.           James Davenport.                  Methuen & Co., London. 1906

           The standard scholarly reference work, written by a former Vicar of Wichenford.  Covers the family

 from ca 1250 to the 1800s  in Worcestershire, England. Although the book is long out of print,

 it is available on a CD in digital form, from Quintin Publications in Orange Park Florida, USA.

Washbourn Origins : Letter of Hubert Oscar Washbourn to his Father.

                Hubert Oscar [Pete] Washbourn.  August 1910.  Typed MS.

                An account of Pete Washbourn’s searching for the origins of the Wiltshire Branch of the family.  His

                success paved the way for Richard Washbourn to document the family in the 1960s.

The Memoirs of Henry Everley Arthur Washbourn 

                HEA Washbourn.  Ca 1942.  Typed MS.

                Memories of ‘Uncle Ev.’; ‘Hailey’; from early childhood, overseas education at Edinburgh, his career, and concludes at the time of

                the death of his wife in Collingwood in 1940.

Washburn Family Foundations in Normandy, England and America.

                A scholarly history of the very early ancestors of the Washbourne family in Europe and England.

                An account of the two settler families, the Washbourns and the Caldwells, who lived in the Collingwood

                area in the early days of Nelson settlement.

Biographies of the descendants of William Everley Washbourn and Susan Ann Washbourn

                 [née Hawk].

                Biographies compiled from mixed sources on the occasion of a family reunion in Collingwood in 1990.

                                       There are two publications by H.P. Washbourn, not of family matters but a compilation of miscellaneous      

                                       notes contributed to The (Nelson) Mail, dealing with the early days in the Nelson, Motueka, Collingwood and

                                       Takaka districts.  These booklets, in A5 format, are now long out of print.
